I've got to say, for being the second(or third) person there, i started out on the right foot. I was thinking... jeez, i'm gonna be wasting my time and boom, the first thing i dig was a keeper. Now this is where i
really start to day dream, a brand new place to hunt, the first find is a musket ball, and i have about ten more piles to search, there has to be a nice coin here with my name on it.
Anyways, off i went to finish up searching the rest of the site with a vision of spanish silver dancing though my head. I climbed to the top of every pile, and then to the bottom, searching the bases, and everything in between hoping for another decent find to come to light. Just about when i hit my 4th pile, somewhere in the middle i get another signal, not crunchy like the musketball, but a smooth sounding tone that hits high on the meter.
Bending down i start to dig for the second time that day, could it be another musketball, could it be that coin i want in my collection so bad. After a little effortless digging out pops what looks to be a piece of melted metal of some sort. A quick field cleaning and i recognize it as being the left side of an eagles wing cast from brass, still not the coin i'm looking for, but a welcome notion that what i'm digging in is pretty old.
After searching a few more pile's i had managed to dig up some other old stuff like a buckle and 2 lead seals, i even turned over a piece of clay pipe stem in the dirt, but i never found that pine tree shilling. I wanted to search a bit longer but it started to rain and i was sinking in some places, oh well...there's always tomorrow.
The tally for the morning wasn't that bad, i had found a lot of old stuff...come to think of it,everything i dug that morning was old, no trash..hu. The trip lasted for about 4 hours
all together, and even though i didn't find one coin, i don't think i could have had a better time. It's all about the experience, not the treasure trove of gold coins....RIGHT ?
Enjoy the pictures : )
